Matthew 9:32-35

32 As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. 33 And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, "Never was anything like this seen in Israel." 34 But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons." 35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.

  1. Just like the paralytic, this man was brought to Jesus (Matthew 9:2). Can people today still bring someone to Jesus? What would that look like?

  2. How would people know this man was demonically influenced? Wouldn’t his speech problem simply have looked like a physical problem? Explain.

  3. Do you think the crowds’ reaction was a reaction of faith? Why or why not?

  4. Why do you think Matthew lets the Pharisees’ reaction hang in the air?

  5. How is verse 35 a fitting capstone to chapters 8-9? Explain.
