Proverbs 3

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

Proverbs 11

24 One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. 25 Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.

Proverbs 21

25 The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. 26 All day long he craves and craves, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.

Talk Sheet Questions

  1. Do you think God might be more honored with the first fruits than with the leftovers? Does it matter if it is the same amount? Explain.

  2. Do firstfruits work differently if you don’t have a farm or a garden (you have no fruit)? How do you figure out firstfruits on a regular salary?

  3. Is getting a full barn or bursting vats the motivation to give to the Lord? Explain. How does God’s blessing relate to your giving?

  4. What times do you feel yourself most inclined to hold back when you think about giving? (21:26)

  5. Share with the group one of the things you will take away from our study in the book of Proverbs.
