In chapter 2, Matthew wants us to see that Jesus fulfills all God’s purposes in the world. He is the perfect King David. He is the fulfillment of God’s mission through Israel. His kingdom is not like Herod’s kingdom. It does not have a “place” yet, but one day it will.
